Former President Carter Discloses Cancer Diagnosis After Surgery
Former President Jimmy Carter’s announcement that he has cancer has raised more questions than answers – including the type of cancer he has, his treatment options, and if it is life-threatening.
Depending on where the cancer began, there’s chemotherapy that can be given. Unfortunately, it was during the surgery when his cancer was revealed.
President Barack Obama released a statement about Carter’s diagnosis.
Carter says he will rearrange his schedule to be treated at Emory Healthcare.
The 39th President says that a more complete statement will be issued next week when more details are known.

The liver is usually a location where cancer may be its main supply and less generally advances. Sometimes the primary site can’t be determined, so genetic analysis of the tumor might be done to see what mutations are driving it and what drugs might target those mutations.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Rosalynn and the entire Carter family as they face this challenge with the same grace and determination that they have shown so many times before”, Obama’s statement read.
“This is a 90-year-old gentlemen with apparent widespread disease”. The goals of treatment would be his comfort. “If chemo is considered it would need to take into account his age”, Mayer said. He is 90 years old. “If he tolerated liver surgery, I imagine he has a relatively good tolerance” to other treatments that might be tried.
“Michelle and I send our best wishes to President Carter for a fast and full recovery”. He founded the Carter Center in Atlanta in 1982 to promote health care and democracy.

About 48,960 people (24,840 men and 24,120 women) will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year.
He announced August. 3 that he had surgery to remove a small mass from his liver.
” combined with the remainder of America, we’re rooting for you, and Jimmy, youare as tough because they come”, Obama stated in a declaration.
