Former President Carter says cancer is ‘gone’ at Sunday school
Former President Jimmy Carter said Thursday doctors found four spots of melanoma on his brain, describing his cancer diagnosis at a press conference in Atlanta.
Carter, 91, announced the good news to attendees of a Sunday school class he often teaches at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia. Jill Stuckey, a close friend of Carter’s, told AJC, “The church, everybody here, just erupted in applause”.
During a press conference in August, Carter announced that his melanoma had spread to his liver and brain.
Jimmy Carter is cancer free.
We’ve reached out to the Carter Center in Atlanta for comment.
“For today, the news can not be better”, Lichtenfeld said.
“Now it’s in the hands of God”, he said.
Three days after the announcement, Carter was teaching Sunday school, per his usual routine. Doctors removed a portion of his liver and found four small tumors on his brain.
Given Carter’s advanced age and the long, devastating history that cancer has had in his family, the announcement he made in August was viewed with much trepidation by many.
