Former Prosecutor: Bill Cosby Documents Wouldn’t Have Helped
Eleven years after that speech, Judge Robreno of the USA District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania had to decide whether Cosby could block the release of a deposition related to the comedian’s alleged molestation of a Temple University employee in 2005.
Cosby has not commented on the unsealed documents.
Meanwhile, an attorney for model Janice Dickinson said “now we know why” Cosby has failed to appear for a deposition in her defamation lawsuit against him. This refusal led Troiani to file the document to a judge, asking him to make Cosby answer.
“This evidence shows a pattern in which defendant “mentored” naive young women and introduced drugs into the relationship, with and without the woman’s knowledge, in order for him to achieve sexual satisfaction”, Constand’s lawyer, Dolores M. Troiani, argued in court papers. “… Before I woke up in the morning, the last thing I remember was Bill Cosby in a patchwork robe, dropping his robe and getting on top of me”.
In one exchange between Cosby and Troiani, the comic admitted having obtained seven prescriptions for Quaaludes, a powerful sedative drug.
A year later, Constand and her mother wanted an apology from Cosby and wanted to know what was in the blue pills he gave her, according to the unsealed documents.
Cosby says one of those was a woman he met in Las Vegas.
In the deposition, a lawyer asked Cosby: “You gave them to other people?”
Thus far, 42 women have come forward to allege that Cosby sexually assaulted them and some say that he drugged them and then had intercourse with them.
Evan Agostini/Invision/AP Singer Jill Scott said she was “wrong” for standing by Bill Cosby amid mounting rape allegations. “It is only one chapter in my life, but I think it is an important chapter”. Constand thought he was giving her an herbal remedy for stress, she said in her lawsuit. “I’m just so relieved that the truth has come out”.
Jamilah Lemieux, senior digital editor at Ebony, the nation’s oldest African-American lifestyle publication, said that even prior to the recent sex assault allegations, many in the black community had long broken their emotional ties to Cosby.
“You never say never”, he said. “But at the same time, you need the proof and then I’ll be able to give my judgment here or there…” “From Fat Albert to the Huxtables”. Ultimately, a judge seized on Cosby’s public moralizing as he unsealed portions of the deposition that had been filed in court. “Why would he be embarrassed by his own version of the facts?”
“I stood by a man I respected and loved”, Scott said via Twitter. One can either question the libel law precedents themselves, or conclude that they ought not be extended here, because of the risk that this “speak out, and you lose part of your privacy rights” approach would deter speaking out.
“I don’t really like to talk about it that much because he’s the reason I’m on this panel in the first place”, she said on The View. “He would find your weak spot”, she said. The case was settled on confidential terms, but it was the first in a torrent of lawsuits that have shattered Cosby’s good-guy image as wise and understanding Dr. Cliff Huxtable on “The Cosby Show” in the 1980s and ’90s.
The entertainer resigned from the board of Temple University last December, as sexual abuse accusations against him multiplied.
