Former QPR Midfielder Joey Barton Booked In For West Ham Medical
Barton, who was released following QPR’s relegation, has been working as a pundit and training by himself during the off-season.
But David Gold, who owns a 35 per cent stake in West Ham, has made his opinions on the midfielder clear in the past, saying that he would tell former manager Sam Allardyce to “take a few days off” if he wanted to sign Barton.
The 32-year-old is well known for his fiery temperament Barton has toned down his attitude in recent seasons but did still receive 11 yellow cards and one red card last term.
The controversial midfielder has been without a club since the end of last season, with Queens Park Rangers opting against renewing his contract.
Oxford was among the Hammers’ most impressive players but as recently as Thursday Bilic’s lack of strength in depth was highlighted when the defeat of a weakened team selected away at Romania’s Astra Giurgiu ended their Europa League campaign.
These tweets came from early 2013 but resurfaced today on the account West Ham News as rumours swirled that Barton was having a medical.
While doing media work for Aston Villa’s clash with Bournemouth on Saturday, August 8, he joked: “Judging by this game today, it won’t be long before I’ll be getting a phone call from somebody”.
“The best player might be sitting in the stands this afternoon, even if I do say so myself”.
West Ham have been interested in signing Alex Song from Barcelona.
