Former Raven Torrey Smith inks three-year deal with Eagles
Jeffery finished the season with 52 receptions for 821 yards and two TDs in 12 games.
The Eagles desperately needed help at wide receiver and they will certainly get it after signing Jeffery.
Smith has a one-year deal worth $5 million with two options attached, which could keep him in Philadelphia for three years.
The Philadelphia Eagles are absolutely terrible at wide receiver and they know it. Dogs know it.
He set career-highs with 89 catches and 1,421 yards in 2013, while he caught 10 touchdown passes in 2014. Over his last four seasons, he is averaging just under 80 receiving yards per game. That deal was a bit ridiculous, and very optimistic on the side of the 49ers, who have had absolutely nothing going on at quarterback over the last few seasons. According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, “Alshon Jeffery is leaning towards choosing the Eagles when free agency starts”. Since earning his first career Pro Bowl honors in 2013 – when he posted 89 receptions for 1,421 yards (16.0 avg.) and seven touchdowns – Jeffery ranks ninth in the National Football League with 4,182 receiving yards.
Free agency opened with bad news for Connor Barwin. That they were able to pull off what they did on Thursday was, frankly, pretty darn remarkable. Bears general manager Ryan Pace spoke to the media at the scouting combine last week and he also did not rule out the possibility of Jeffery re-signing with the team. Matthews was previously viewed as the top receiver for the Eagles, but Jeffrey’s arrival changes things.
The Eagles’ offense is finally in a position to fly again.
