Former Rick Perry Adviser Named Trump’s National Co-Chair
Clovis, a veteran campaign leader, had been a big score for the Perry campaign when he signed on with the team.
Donald Trump’s campaign gained some steam on Tuesday at the expense of an opponent who had already been languishing near the bottom of most polls.
Tuesday night Donald Trump announced that Clovis has been hired as a national co-chair and senior policy advisor for his presidential campaign.
He was introduced by Trump tonight in Dubuque, Iowa at Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign rally.
His move to Trump’s campaign was shepherded by Chuck Laudner, an operative who worked for Rick Santorum in 2012 with Clovis, and is now assisting Trump.
In an interview with Politico, Clovis said he’d had the opportunity to get to know Trump in the last few months.
In a clear show of support for Trump, Clovis said: ‘As this campaign unfolds, voters will be able to see the differences between candidates based on the vision they have for America and the policies and ideas they deliver, and we will be leading the way.
Trump, in a statement to The Washington Post, also announced five additional staffers in several key states in the 2016 race, including tapping Charles Munoz as his Nevada state director.
“The governor is a exceptional man and I have been honored to be a part of his marketing campaign”, he defined.
Nashed confirmed hours later Monday that the campaign has “started putting people back on payroll” in Iowa and South Carolina.
But, despite this latest development, the Perry campaign has launched a tepid fightback. He had been working as Perry’s Iowa chairman.
