Former RNC Chairman: Trump Will Be Republican Nominee
But King pushed back against the comments, repeating Trump’s defense of New York City during 9/11, saying that people from all around the city responded and that New Yorkers served and died in the war in Iraq. The phrase “New York values” has gotten buzz over the last week in a way “flip-flopper” never would have. “Donald’s record does not match what he says as a candidate”, he told reporters in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
Cruz, for his part, still shows no signs of backing down from the comments, which were meant to be an attack on his GOP rival Donald Trump.
Cruz just came off as an actor playing off, off, off, way off Broadway.
At the tea party meeting, Cruz didn’t mention Trump by name. Cruz contrasted the Trump of yesteryear to the Trump of today, intimating that Trump is not being genuine when he claims to be a conservative.
Asked about the remark during Thursday night’s debate, Cruz said there are good people in NY state, but he derided Trump’s town as a city home to values that are “socially liberal or pro-abortion or pro-gay marriage”, and a place obsessed with money and fame.
“So, I don’t see how that momentum gets stopped right now, I don’t know who breaks it. Come on, you had eight months”.
Both men on Friday demanded Cruz apologize to the people of NY – with Cuomo accusing him of “demonizing” those he disagrees with and polarizing voters so as to “make it impossible to govern”.
In one particularly provocative Twitter post, Trump posted a photo of the ruins of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks and asked if that was the same NY that Cruz was knocking.
Trump, while appearing on Morning Joe on MSNBC, accused Cruz of not being appropriate in raising the question about whether the citizenship of Trump’s mother disqualifies him from running for the presidency.
The paper also published a response from New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Cruz was in Portsmouth attending the “No BS Backyard BBQ” event series sponsored by former USA senator Scott Brown.
Some members of the audience then booed Trump, who laughed but proceeded to criticize Cruz for not reporting two bank loans that were used finance his 2012 Senate race. I’m not a Trump fan, but I would say he’s a little spot on. “I think the American people are looking for a commander-in-chief who is stable and steady and a calm hand to keep this country safe”.
