Former SPIDER-MAN Contender Natt Wolff Joins Live-Action DEATH NOTE Movie
Now, as Variety reports, Wolff may be headed to Death Note if his negotiations work out. Which, okay, sounds kind of dumb when I put it that way. While Wolff is a fantastic addition to the project, fans should use the eventual casting of L and Wingard’s plan to bring Ryuk to life as further litmus tests for the adaptation.
Although the name of the character will undoubtedly be changed, he’ll play a version of Light Yagami, the genius high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that gives the owner the power to kill someone simply by writing their name within its pages. “A cat-and-mouse game ensues when he’s tracked by a reclusive police officer”. Shane Black was originally attached to direct. Wingard came on earlier this year after Black’s departure.
After fronting two John Green adaptations, actor Nat Wolff is finally looking to star in more challenging material.
Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka are producing the project, which was previously adapted as a movie in its home country of Japan, where it spawned a sequel.
DEATH NOTE will begin shooting this Spring with a script by Jeremy Slater (THE LAZARUS EFFECT). He was one of several young actors vying for the Spider-Man lead at Sony and Marvel, but according to Variety was deemed too old for the part.
