Former Tiger Delmon Young arrested after allegedly choking, threatening a valet
Former Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Delmon Young has been accused of choking and threatening to kill a Miami valet, according to ABC 10 Miami. NBC’s Hardball Talk confirmed the report.
After being told the club wasn’t open, Young allegedly grabbed the hotel employee by the neck and made the threat to kill him.
Young then reached over the valet podium and “grabbed him around his neck with both hands”, police reported. Surely if you asked Young he’d say the attack was justified following the warning threat.
“Stupid Cuban. Open the (expletive) door”.
He also, according to the report, told one of the officers, “I’ll slap you in the face with money, you (expletive) Cuban”.
The free agent outfielder fled, returning to his room.
Young, 30, was arrested Sunday night following an alleged altercation at the Viceroy Miami luxury hotel, according to WPLG, a Miami television station.
Young walked away – but allegedly returned moments later, again confronting the attendant.
Young played for the Twins for three and a half seasons between 2008 and 2011. He was arrested in 2012 in NYC after police claimed that he yelled anti-Semitic epithets during a fight at his hotel. He pleaded guilty to harassment and performed 10 hours of community service.
This isn’t the first time Young has gotten in trouble for something like this.
The most notable accomplishment of his playing career came in 2012 as a member of the Detroit Tigers, when Young was named the American League Championship Series MVP.
The Orioles designated Young for assignment last July 1, and he has been out of baseball since. Upon being ejected from a game for arguing a third-strike call, Young flung his bat at an umpire as he headed to the dugout.
