Former world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko to take up rematch
Wladimir Klitschko will attempt to regain the world heavyweight title by taking up his option for a rematch with new champion Tyson Fury next year.
Klitschko, who lost his IBF, WBO and WBA titles in his 19th title defence, has yet to give a definite statement on his plans.
Klitschko’s dismal performance on Saturday night baffled even his own camp but the Ukrainian clearly it was a one-off and he still has what it takes to beat 27-year-old Fury.
Similarly, up-and-coming British heavyweight Anthony Joshua believes that he can challenge the new champion of the world, per Sky Sports.
I don’t know where it’s gonna be, I’ve always said I’d like to fight at Croke Park, so maybe that can be a reality one day. “This is what I want to change in the rematch – and I will. Failure is not an option”.
Details have still to be worked out but the trainer said London’s Wembley Stadium next year was a possibility.
“I saw in his eyes tonight he was going to lose the fight and he saw the new, hungry champion in me”, he adds.
“I have a pre-Christmas gift for Tyson Fury and all boxing fans across the world”.
After walking away with all of Wladimir Klitschko’s belts, Tyson Fury is not done by any measure.
“There were all these little things they thought might affect me, as it has with fighters in the past”.
Explaining bare knuckle fighting, Fury said: “Travellers do not go to courts to settle matters, they step out and fight and the best man wins”.
Well done him, says me between mouthfuls of humble pie, and I just hope that the intelligence which Fury used to out-fox the former holder will serve him as successfully in future bouts.
Peter Fury had originally informed WBN that Tyson wanted to fulfill all his mandatory obligations and not drop any of his title belts, although a lucrative and contracted return with Klitschko is set to throw a spanner in the works.
