Fort Campbell soldier arrested in fatal shooting of 2-year-old
Gov. Bill Haslam announced the reward money this week and says he hopes it will “bring whoever did this to justice”.
The ongoing investigation has been a collaborative law enforcement effort with assistance from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) Agents, TBI Crime Lab and Fort Campbell Criminal Investigations Division (CID).
The suspect Zackery Alexander (Black Male, 10/04/1994) was arrested and has been charged with Criminal Homicide.
Joseph Bankston was fatally shot inside his Clarksville home on October 4 when a man came into the home, asked for a jumper cable, and opened fire.
Clarksville police reported 21-year-old Pfc.
The police statement said the boy’s shooting was “intentional”.
The child’s father, Brandon Jimenez, was also shot multiple times and was in critical condition at a Nashville hospital Wednesday morning.
Jimenez is a medic with the 86th Combat Support Hospital at Fort Campbell, but authorities have not said whether the two know each other.
Alexander was booked at the Montgomery County jail.
