Fort Meade schools closed during search for carjacking suspect
Reno Police said they have named a suspect in the death of one woman found in Stead – Edward Pundyk was arrested on open murder charges just hours after police said he engaged in more than an hour-long standoff with authorities.
Several schools and a few roadways are partially closed Thursday as police in Anne Arundel County search for a suspect who they say crashed a stolen auto near the gates of Fort Meade.
Officers and an aviation unit searched for the man, but he was still on the loose as of Thursday morning, police said.
Fort Meade, the NSA, and all public schools near the Army base have been closed today to all but mission critical personnel.
Col. Brian Foley told The Baltimore Sun that suspect Dante Small hid from searchers in a storm drain. With very few details, we know that Anne Arundel County Police were in pursuit of a stolen/carjacked vehicle last night shortly before 9pm.
The base, located about 20 miles northeast of Washington, returned to normal operations after the suspect was caught and taken into custody without incident, Fort Meade officials said in a statement.
The driver then fled on foot, the police statement said. Fort Meade officials are asking residents in the area to remain indoors. The driver jumped out of the auto and ran away onto the base.
