Fossil shows off its first Android Wear smartwatch at Intel Developers Conference
Fossil being more of a fashion brand than a straight forward watch maker, introduced a connected bracelet, connected watch, and finally a smartwatch running Android Wear. This could well mean some newly found success on the wearable market for Android products, as we have yet to see something spectacular in that area. While the two companies are behemoths in the fashion brand world, they are new to the high-tech gadget game.
Intel chief executive Brian Krzanich and Fossil Group executive vice president Greg McKelvey announced a trio of new watches at the Intel Developer Forum event in San Francisco. The collaboration was announced in September 2014, and now the watches are ready. In addition to this first device – which at first glance looks very similar to certain Android Wear devices made by Motorola and Huawei – more devices are already on the table. Yes, “products” because there’s more than just a smartwatch headed to retail; Fossil is also working on a connected band and another, connected watch that’s not quite as high functioning as a full-on smartwatch. The products will be available in the fourth-quarter of this year. Fossil has made smartwatches before, too.
