Four more women join defamation lawsuit against Bill Cosby
His insurance company has been required to pay the cost of defending the defamation claim brought forward by Janice Dickinson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Papers filed in federal court in MA indicate that four more plaintiffs will sign on to a defamation suit previously filed by Cosby accusers Tamara Green, Linda Traitz and Therese Serignese.
Marshall Searcy III, who is listed as Cosby’s attorney in the suit by the seven women, declined to comment.
Moritz’s lawsuit comes less than a year after she tried to rally at least nine of the other women to join her in a lawsuit against Cosby.
Defamation actions typically have a one-year statue of limitations and November 21, 2014, marked the Cosby team’s last public denial of the sex assault accusers’ accounts.
Moritz, who appeared in movies like “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and “Up in Smoke”, added her name to the growing number of Cosby’s alleged victims. “It will do you good in so many ways'”.
The comedian allegedly told her he was impressed by her work and “implied that he was going to see to it that I will become a major star through his direction”.
In the California defamation case, brought by model Janice Dickinson, an appeals court on Thursday temporarily stayed an order requiring Cosby and his former attorney Martin D. Singer to face questioning under oath this month.
An email message sent to Cosby’s lawyers about Thursday’s order was not immediately returned. “We are confident that once the Court of Appeals hears full argument on the issues it will allow the deposition of Mr. Cosby and his attorney to go forward”, Dickinson’s attorney Lisa Bloom posted on Twitter.
However, Cosby’s spokeswoman, Monique Pressley, said in a statement that Dickinson has not yet met the legal burden needed to compel Cosby and Singer to give depositions.
