Four Rangers personnel killed in Karachi
Local Pakistani security officials have confirmed that at least three of the paramilitary soldiers were killed on the spot while the fourth died in hospital.
According to reports, armed motorbike riders opened fire on a mobile van of Rangers in Ittehad Town area after Friday prayers when the law-enforcement personnel were on security duty.
Officials suggested the attackers meant to target the Sunni mosque during Friday prayers, when a few 500 people were inside and in the adjoining madrassa (religious seminary).
The Director General of Pakistan Rangers Sindh Major General Bilal Akbar in a statement in Karachi said investigation is being carried out of the Ittehad Town firing incident. As a result of the attack, four Rangers’ personnel received bullets out of which, three were blown off, while one is still breathing and being given treatment at hospital.
Taking notice of the incident, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered immediate arrest of the attackers.
Karachi, the capital of Pakistan’s southern province of Sindh, has been the site of frequent attacks in the past.

Since January, 79 policemen have been gunned down in different parts of the city.
