Fournette, Alexander Earn SEC Weekly Honors

The sophomore ran all over Auburn’s defense in leading LSU to a 45-21 victory in Tiger Stadium.

The Buzz: After a tremendous performance against USF, Cook and the Seminoles ran into a tough Boston College defense last Friday that limited the running back to just 54 yards.

Fournette had 228 yards and three TDs on 19 carries, an average of 12 yards per carry.

When you watch Fournette, it’s hard not to have sympathy for the defenders standing in his way. Fournette produced a career’s worth of highlights and enough meme- and GIF-worthy material to break the Internet.

Fournette wasted no time making his opening statement.

Interestingly, Fournette’s first two games haven’t come against weaklings in college football, unlike the schedules of some teams early on.

Miles intimated that Fournette may have been motivated by Ford.

“I thought Brandon Harris did exactly what we asked him to do”, Miles said of the former Parkway star.

The more LSU can run and keep Harris from being put in situations where he must make plays, the longer he has to gain confidence and develop in the position.

Fournette’s numbers are impressive in their own right, and he’s so dominant that National Football League observers are already comparing him to one of the best running backs of this century. No dice.

Back-up quarterback Tim Boyle, the holder, fluttered a soft pass over the middle, but Missouri safety Anthony Sherrils intercepted the pass and returned it 50 yards to UConn’s 37-yard line. If he had gotten to play in LSU’s cancelled season opener against what would have been an overmatched McNeese State team, he could easily be approaching 600 yards and 10 scores this year.

I know it’s a different level of competition in the SEC, but still, there’s not much that white can do to kill his team’s chances of winning any more than Johnson has. He committed to LSU two winters ago as the nation’s No. 1 prep player, saying on ESPN he would “take my talent, for the next three or four years” – note the confident use of the word “three” – just up Interstate 10 from his New Orleans home.

Fournette is also risky when he can turn the corner. Will Muschamp’s unit got roasted on Saturday, but his won’t be the last.

“We’ve seen this guy before”, cornerback Jonathan Jones said. I really expect us to come together and get better. “They are all great running backs”. We have confidence in him.

Meanwhile, odds to win the Heisman, released this week, show Fournette as the frontrunner, with 11/2 odds.

“There are multiple things we can do when we are running the ball, ” Clapp said. I want a championship. His first touchdown of the day was a 40-yard rumble, ripping through the Auburn defense.

No. 7 is a changed man – with the help of 8-month-old daughter, Lyric. “It did everybody else, though”, Fournette said. I’m a football player.

Fournette was inundated with the same questions over and over Saturday.

“No favorite run”, he said. Just a good one. “It’s a wonderful feeling”.
