Fox Business Channel GOP Undercard Debate Post-Mortem
“Jindal singled out former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee after he defended his record, ticking off statistics that he said showed government spending increased during Huckabee’s tenure in Arkansas”.
Mr. Jindal argued that sending a big government Republican to DC was not enough to fix this problem. “If I go to New Jersey, they will call me lots of different things”, Christie said to Jindal.
The struggling candidate said that the most important question facing voters in the upcoming presidential election is whether people are willing to cut the size of the government to grow the economy.
He kept on his message about stopping another four years of a Democrat in the White House, but Jindal insisted that “records matter”, saying he “caved in to Obamacare”.
“We need a conservative, not a big government Republican”, the Louisianan groused.
Huckabee defended his view that it is wrong for the federal government to reduce Social Security and Medicare benefits.
Before the evening’s debate, both Christie and Santorum, candidates hurt by low poll numbers, lashed out at Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama while also defending their conservative pasts in Milwaukee.
Most of all, he used his time the way a front-running candidate would have: largely ignoring his opponents and casting his eye toward Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Democrat who is polling well ahead of her rivals in her primary.
Sen. Lindsey Graham of SC and former NY Gov. George Pataki did not qualify for this debate.
“She is the real adversary tonight, and we’d better stay focused as Republicans on her”.
“I’m a capitalist, not a corporatist”, he said.
“Their causes and the toilets get flushed at the same time“, Jindal said, referring to US senators.
Jindal then took one more dig at Christie, saying he should get “a ribbon for participation, and a juice box”. The New Jersey governor was also one of the stronger performers in the three primetime debates-though that didn’t seem to impress the conservative constituency he needed to woo. “If the Chinese commit cyberwarfare against us, they are going to see cyberwarfare like they have never seen before”. “All you have to do is listen to the last Democratic debate”.
“Since we’re not going to answer the question”, Huckabee said, “let me just remind everybody, tomorrow is Veterans Day”.
One user suggested Santorum’s shout was reminiscent of a past presidential candidate’s famous outburst. “And I think if we start working together and stop allowing the purveyors of division to prevail, we’re going to be just fine because we are the United States of America”.
