FOX Continues to Pursue X-Men Television Series
There’s no reason to think that Fox won’t continue to push ahead with more X-Men movies after the release of X-Men: Apocalypse next year, but there’s an increasingly good chance we might be seeing some mutant heroics on our TV screens as well.
It should be interesting to see what happens if a live-action X-Men series does happen.
It was reported earlier that Fox was planning to adapt “X-Men” franchise from Marvel.
Rumors that FOX the channel was hoping to build off the box office success of X-Men: Days of Future Past by putting a live-action X-Men show on TV started last October.
Walden also confirmed that the ultimate goal was for the new X-Men TV show to be a “long-running” series, and not a mere revival. It seems at least fairly likely, based on what Fox programming heads Dana Walden and Gary Newman said in Beverly Hills today at the TCA Summer Press Tour.
Back in January, it was revealed that FOX was looking to expand their X-Men franchise from exclusively feature films into television as well. No word has been giving on plots or characters yet as they are still only in negotiations. There are a ton of options, assuming they want to stay out of the way of the film franchise.
That could work as the X-Men franchise is not a part of Marvel’s current cinematic universe. Basically, instead of a team approach, focus the series on one major character and tell the untold stories that could conceivably fit into the canon, without messing it all up.
The cult classic X-Men: The Animated Series aired on Fox between 1992 and 1997.
As anticipation grows for Fox’s Deadpool adaptation, Fox is already planning to expand its Marvel properties by delving into another medium: television. Worth noting: Hugh Jackman was 30 when he first suited up, so aim for an actor around that age to take up the small-screen role. Here is everything we know so far regarding the planned mutant series. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as the story develops.
