Frampton expects Quigg to be booed in Manchester
Tickets for the blockbuster Super Bantamweight title clash between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg will go on sale at 9am on this Friday, November 20.
Quigg was also recently handed top tier title status with the WBA after Cuban former amateur standout, Guillermo Rigondeaux was stripped of his belt, allowing the unification to take place – something else that has provoked the ire of Frampton, given Quigg’s 2nd tier title was also “handed” to him back in 2013 before his fight with Yoandris Salinas.
The pair will exchange verbal blows for the last time before fight week as they fulfil their press duties before heading off into camp for their February 27 Manchester Arena showdown.
“This fight is definitely happening because of Carl’s last fight”.
For their part, Quigg’s team seem convinced they have got under Frampton’s skin, with Hearn announcing he had breakfasted on “three pints of banter juice”.
Responding to Frampton’s claims that Quigg was “still eating crayons” when he had his first bout at the age of seven, the Bury boxer, who has 31 wins and two draws from 33 professional fights, said: “I have been in the ring since the age of nine and had 70-odd Thai boxing fights before I started boxing”.
“Eddie can say what he wants but the only reason Scott Quigg is there with Hearn is because I left Hearn”. He’s put me out there, he’s got me a lot of media coverage which has helped [grow] the fan base, he’s picked the right fights for me, he’s done deals for me all over the world, he’s got me a deal with Al Haymon who’s the most powerful and influential man in boxing.
“I could make this an easy fight”.
Frampton said: “I think I can knock him out, I probably will later on”. It wasn’t a great performance by me but I got up and won comfortably.
“I don’t think I would be where I am now without Barry”. He needs to get this fight done while he is still unbeaten. “My Christmas present was signing for this fight”. I’ve been after this guy for about four years now.
“This fight will go early as he can’t handle the power”, he said.
