Frank de Boer: ‘Louis van Gaal needs time’
And De Boer feels that current Manchester United boss Van Gaal will be successful wherever he goes as long as he is given time to implement his ideas upon a team.
De Boer, who has been widely praised throughout Dutch media for his style of play with Ajax, has often been tipped to someday manage in England, with the 45-year-old heavily linked to both the Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur jobs in the past.
For De Boer, his more experienced countryman will do well if he is given enough time.
“He has a great mentality but still he is very young and has to know what he has to do to stay on that level or even get better – I think Van Gaal is the right person for that”. I think he also learned a lot in the last couple of years about what he has to do if he is in a foreign country.
‘He will get what he wants if he gets time and everybody believes his philosophy’.
Throughout his management career the United boss has never been shy to take issue with the way reporters have asked him questions or used his words. Van Gaal is noted for taking everything out to the media, having vilified the likes of Victor Valdes in public, something De Boer insists is not to his liking.
“Sometimes you have to let things rest and try not to make things out of nothing”.
Memphis isn’t the only attacker struggling for form at Old Trafford as captain Wayne Rooney has also come under scrutiny for his displays and distinct lack of goals.
De Boer said: “I think he can [handle the pressure]”.
“But Van Gaal is always full on and that’s entertaining and very amusing”.
