Frank Gore returns home, leads Colts over Dolphins
If you’re looking for anything else bright, get happy that Miami has a chance to defeat New England next week.
The Colts conclude the regular season at home against the Tennessee Titans (3-12), who lost 34-6 at home to the Texans Sunday.
“I’m happy to be back”, said Gore, who ran 15 times for 85 yards after failing to clear 60 yards in his past five games. “It’s been a tough year”.
“My high school wasn’t a military school when I went there, but it used to be a military school”. The Colts are on their third three-game losing streak of the season, but have twice rebounded with consecutive wins. The Texans are 8-7.
Tannehill threw for 329 yards but was intercepted in the end zone by Vontae Davis to end a Dolphins threat. “Ultimately, we’re all responsible. It’s never one man’s fault”.
When a team lacks discipline and commits penalties in crucial situations, it always reflects negatively on the head coach and his staff. As unfair as it may seem, Dan Campbell will once again be the scapegoat of this organization, as his offensive coordinator, Zac Taylor, and his defense coordinator, Lou Anarumoboth, failed him in a game that not only did they have to win, but should have won given the circumstances.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (12) looks towards the field from the sidelines during the second half of an NFL football game against the Miami Dolphins, Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, in Miami Gardens, Fla.
Charlie Whitehurst came in and played the rest of the game at quarterback, passing for just 78 yards but avoiding turnovers.
The Colts also worked out quarterback Josh Freeman but Chuck Pagano said they haven’t made a decision to offer him a contract or not. WR Jarvis Landry (seven receptions, 111 yards) was strong.
The Dolphins also had a safety, their franchise-record fourth of the season, when Tannehill was sacked in the end zone in the first quarter.
The Dolphins needed a touchdown on their final drive Sunday in large part because they didn’t score one on their penultimate possession.
After three Tannehill incomplete passes, the Dolphins’ offensive line had an obvious miscommunication on fourth down.
The Week 17 game against the Titans could be a meaningless game for the Colts but alas it still must be played. Frank Gore had a rushing touchdown on one while veteran kicker Adam Vinatieri hit a field goal on the other.
On their final possession, the Dolphins took over at their own 20 with 2:48 remaining. And then came the capper, getting the snap count wrong with the game on the line. Tannehill begins his cadence and suddenly the ball is snapped.
“We had it on a double cadence and we had a cadence issue”. Only when that first tiebreaker (8-8) occurs, can we start calculating down the list of tiebreakers and see what the Colts need to happen.
NOTES: With QB Andrew Luck missing his sixth straight game, the Colts signed former Miami Hurricanes QB Stephen Morris, 23, as a backup….
