Frank Ocean releases long-awaited new studio album
Frank Ocean finally released a new album on Friday, but you’ll need an Apple Music subscription to give it a spin. That project became Endless, a visual album Ocean released on Thursday night. “Especially all of you who never let me forget I had to finish”.
A representative from Apple Music hinted to the New York Times in a statement that fans should “keep an eye out this weekend for more from Frank”.
Like Ocean’s newly released visual album, Endless is an Apple exclusive-aside from the copies available inside the physical book-which appear to be a slightly different version of the album than the one available via Apple.
The Thinkin Bout You star dropped his eagerly anticipated second album, Blonde, overnight after a four year hiatus.
But, while everyone has been eagerly awaiting the album Boys Don’t Cry, which has been expected to come out since July of past year, Frank set the internet ablaze with Endless, a 45-minute visual album that was accompanied by a stream of the singer building a set of stairs from scratch. For the first time since 2012’s Channel Orange blazed through the charts and Grammy awards alike, R&B wonderkid Frank Ocean released a full album.
The black-and-white livestream shows Frank Ocean building a set of stairs in a large studio while the music plays in the background. Of course, you’ll need to be an Apple Music subscriber, or at least partaking in the service’s free trial.
To celebrate the release of “Blonde”, pop up stores were created in Los Angeles, New York, London, and Chicago.
His 18-track visual album Endless features collaborations with musicians such as James Blake, Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood and Jazmine Sullivan, and the London Contemporary Orchestra provides much of the lovely background tunes thanks to its cello, violin, double bass and viola players.
