Franken supports Iran nuclear deal
The board expressed gratitude for the Obama administration’s focus on the Iranian nuclear threat, but went on to say that the Iran deal should be strengthened, war is not the only alternative to the deal (Obama has claimed it is) and Israel is being singled out.
Jonathan Greenblatt, the newly appointed national director of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and a former special assistant to President Barack Obama, called on Congress to vote against the nuclear deal with Iran in a column for the Huffington Post Thursday.
The Dearborn Democratic Club has general body meetings on the last Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.at the UAW Local 245 on Monroe in Dearborn.
All told, 20 Senate Democrats have backed the deal, with one – New York Sen.
Schumer, the highest-ranking Jewish U.S. Senator, said he had concerns about how the inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities would work or if they would happen at all.
Kerry: “The United States is going to start sanctioning our allies and their banks and their businesses because we walked away from a deal and we’re going to force them to do what we want them to do even though they agreed to the deal we came to?”
Speaking at a news conference during an annual congressional trip to Israel, he said there’s “very [much] a possibility” that there could be enough votes for the override, which the administration has said would sink the deal.
IF YOU OPPOSE the Iranian nuclear agreement, you are increasing the chances of war.
This was articulated by the President when he scolded a reporter on why negotiating for the release of U.S. hostages would give Iran more leverage on the negotiations. For Iran, the agreement will offer some relief from the economic sanctions slapped on it by the West, in return for the strict curbs on its nuclear program, which the West suspects, is for making a nuclear bomb. “That is why I believe the JCPOA is in the best interest of the United States, Israel, and the world and will support it when it comes before the Congress for a vote“. We’d have to cut off countries like China from the American financial system.
Among the reasons Schumer cited for his opposition, he did not like that Iran could delay inspections of so-called undeclared sites for up to 24 days.
If Iran or the United States thought that the other was not complying, it could complain to the commission. After only eight years, Iran can buy ballistic missiles. The White House also estimates Iran will be able to access around $50 billion in foreign reserves as part of sanctions relief, which some fear it will use to fund terrorist activity in the region. Even if they abide by the deal, which is highly unlikely, we are merely kicking the can down the road and allowing them to develop nuclear weapons in 10-15 years, with the blessing of the world community. “Too many issues I have long raised as essential to any nuclear deal with Iran are not adequately addressed in this agreement“, he wrote.
