Frat Brothers Arrested for Brutal Crime-But It’s Their Mugshots That Have
Five students from the University of Mississippi were arrested for allegedly assaulting a Sigma Pi member.
Guy and Hughes, who are business majors, along with Rice, were arrested on charges of larceny.
Five University of Mississippi students have been arrested following the October 6 beating of another student.
The “crime description” under Steil’s portion of the report, which has him charged with assault, says, “Hands, fists, feet, etc. Aggravated injury”. “Austin Rice, an engineering major, was arrested on charges of larceny as well”.
Sources told the newspaper they believe another fraternity on campus is responsible.
The term “hazing” is often associated with organizations preparing new members for initiation.
The others were arrested October. 20, and the location of their arrest is listed as 207 Rebel Drive, or Kinard Hall, where the University Police Department is located.
Representatives from Ole Miss would not comment on if the school has or plans to punish the students outside of their pending criminal charges. The Oxford Eagle (http://bit.ly/1W7r2Qb) reports Steil posted $10,000 bail and was released from the Lafayette County jail. Ole Miss policies state that students and student organizations must “exercise integrity and respect for the dignity of each person by refraining from the act of hazing in any form”.
Given that this is purportedly a hazing incident, it is likely that an investigation has been launched by the Student Conduct, whose findings will be directed to the judicial council.
It is unclear whether an investigation has begun. When he went to check out the noise, there was an altercation and he was jumped by five Pi Kappa Alpha members, according to WMC.
District Attorney Ben Creekmore was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.
Boyle was taken to the Baptist Medical Hospital for treatment of a concussion, ruptured eardrum, and broken teeth.
