Chicago has hit 23 homers in its last 15 contests, while Jose Abreu has reached base in 30 of his last 32 games, driving in 32 runs in the process.TV: 2:10 p.m. ET, FSN South (Atlanta), WGN (Chicago) PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves RH Julio Teheran (3-7, 2.72 ERA) vs.
The White Sox shut out the Yankees, 5-0, on Wednesday, their sixth shutout of the season (second most in the AL: Cleveland – seven) and their first since April 27 at Toronto (4-0).
Despite all that, Atlanta easily handled the usually unbeatable Chris Sale, clubbing three home runs and scoring eight runs through five innings en route to an 11-8 win. He has five home runs this season after hitting two against the Cubs.
Even with Friday’s clunker, Sale (14-3) remains one of baseball’s best pitchers who will likely take on a starting role in next week’s All-Star Game.
The White Sox had won four of five games and five straight series.
It wasn’t. Anderson tags out d’Arnaud who was making his way back to 2nd base, touches the bag to get the oncoming runner from 1st base and throws to first, beating Freeman by a healthy margin.
Anderson said he was part of a triple play for the first time.
“(Sale) needed that”, Ventura said.
The White Sox became the first team to turn three triple plays in a season since 1979 (Boston and Oakland) in the third inning.
“I was kind of like basketball player in that role”, he said.
The Braves scored four runs in the fifth on three straight doubles to the wall to break a 4-all tie. He fielded Cabrera’s one-out grounder and stepped on first, then chased down Adam Eaton, who stopped halfway to second to get in a rundown.
Frazier, the defending All-Star Home Run Derby champion, is pumped to take his cuts at Monday’s competition in San Diego. “You know how many home runs you need to hit”, he said. “If everything goes well tomorrow and he feels good Sunday, he’ll be available to pitch in the All-Star Game, I’m assuming”, interim manager Brian Snitker said. Carlos Sanchez took Lawrie’s place at second base. Garcia is 9-for-17 in his last four contests with four RBIs and two runs scored. Rodon was placed on the disabled list and replaced by RHP Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Charlotte.
Over on the White Sox side, we’ll be getting a look at lefty Jose Quintana in Saturday’s start.
