Free flights confirmed: Air-born baby gets a million travel miles
Haven’s mother went into labor Sunday after the flight had been airborne for four hours.
Speaking about the condition of the mother, Prameela Sekhar, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology, Apollo Cradle, said a team of gynaecologist, anaesthesiologist and radiologist ensure that she has a quick recovery from the complications post the unexpected delivery.
Umandal said the woman began having contractions about halfway through the flight, prompting flight attendants to call for medical assistance.
Airline CEO Lance Gokongwei said Haven would be awarded one million points on the airline’s GetGo rewards program to celebrate the birth.
One passenger caught the heart-warming moment after the unnamed woman went into labour two months early.
Who joins her? Baby Haven joins a whole host of other baby’s when it comes to an impressive entrance to the world. A woman near our seat gave birth to a healthy baby girl, on our flight from Dubai back to PH.
“We might have misheard the name, but it sounded like the baby would be named “Haven”, wrote Umandal.
Once the little girl arrived, flight attendants rinsed her off with some mineral water, while another passenger offered up free baby clothing.
While undoubtedly miraculous, perhaps the coolest part of this story is the newborn will receive free flights on Cebu Pacific Air for life, according to Umandal.
Umandal says the other passengers heard just one loud cry and seconds later heard the baby, who apparently arrived after just one push from the mother.
So, a baby born mid-flight is usually permitted to either take on the citizenship of the country where the plane is registered, or the nationality of their parents.
The woman and her mother left the flight and the baby was rushed to hospital and placed in an incubator, a standard procedure for premature births.
A co-passenger on the flight narrated the entire incident on her Facebook account which has since gone viral. While this rule still applies in U.S., it has been revoked in most countries, including the Philippines. I didn’t see the actual birth – a wall blocked us from seeing it, and they also closed the curtains.
