Free Weekend As National Park Service Turning 100-Years Old
August 28-September 4: Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts from the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park community will speak at the park with an astronaut onboard the International Space Station.
In celebration of the National Park Service’s 100th anniversary, entrance fees will be waived for Crater Lake National Park Thursday through Sunday, according to a news release.
“It’s our birthday, and we are sharing it with everyone”, said Novato resident Aaron Roth, Golden Gate National Recreation Area interim superintendent. “Discover all that our public lands have to offer”.
So, get to enjoying a national treasure.
During his weekly video address, President Obama spoke about America’s National Parks and shared some of his own memories and photos from a recent family trip out west. While those economic pressures will likely remain, the legacy of the National Park Service will continue to show domestic and global visitors the natural beauty and historical connections that make America America. On Aug. 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the bill creating the National Park Service.
But people should brace themselves for throngs at Muir Woods. In the evening, join park rangers for a Centennial evening campfire program at the Mazama Amphitheatre at 8 p.m.
