Freedom 251 – India launches a $4 smartphone
The online booking of Freedom 251, world’s cheapest smartphone priced at Rs 251, has resumed on Freedom251.com. It comes with an in-built storage of 8GB which can further be expanded up to 32GB with a microSD card. The Freedom 251 will come with many preloaded application such as Women Safety, Swach Bharat, Farmer, Fishermen, Google Play, WhatsaApp, Facebook, YouTube and Medical applications.
When users try to book Bells Freedom 251, it asks you to fill necessary information. There’s no question that it’s got a low-end spec list, but the goal of the device is to help keep consumers connected at a super-low price. Priced at roughly one days’ wages, the Freedom 251 will certainly do that. When you visit the Freedom 251 website you will see the site, but clicking on the buy now button takes you to an error page now. Other criticisms on the Freedom 251 include that it is too cheap to make any profit and that the so-called beta version of the phone copies Apple’s iOS icons and resembles Adcom’s Ikon 4.
The bargain smartphone is available only via pre-order, in a brief window that closes on February 22; Ringing Bells says it will make all deliveries by June 30.
Both of these smartphones are made with the same company Ringing bell, These smartphones are basically made for the people who want to have a smartphone that can fit there pockets.
In its notice to customers the company said it was receiving 600,000 hits per second on its website, although it did not say how many of those hits converted to real orders.
While the bill of material (BOM) of the Freedom 251 comes at around Rs. 2,700, the company is selling it at Rs. 251 to create hype in the market.
The camera was a relatively modest 3.2 megapixel sensor, with a 0.3 megapixel front camera.
While smartphones continue to become more affordable, the latest offering by Indian firm Ringing Bell will surprise you with its price – that is less than the price of an extra value fast food meal.
