FreedomPop launches free mobile service in UK
FreedomPop today unveiled new iPhone-Only plans to bring unprecedented value to iPhone 6 users and embolden the impact of Apple’s new financing program. It plans to launch into seven more countries by the end of 2017.
“FreedomPop was built on the vision that everyone should have access to mobile services, whether that’s bringing innovative, free plans to U.S. users or expanding our free mobile service across the globe”, said Stephen Stokols, FreedomPop CEO and co-founder.
If you’re looking for a larger data allowance, the £9 per month plan comes with 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and 1GB of data, and there’s a £12 per month option that offers 2GB of data and unlimited minutes and texts.
It looks like you also have to cancel a monthly £1.99 charge to continue for free every month.
Another great thing that FreedomPop offers, at least in the United States for now, is that users can share their allocation with family members and friends, if you feel like you won’t be able to use all 200 texts and 200 minutes.
Stephen Stokols, FreedomPop CEO, commented: “The UK has had many mobile providers and services enter the market, but none of them offer a completely new business model enabling free service, guaranteed for life”. For $19 per month iPhone owners will get 1GB of data to use, plus unlimited calls and texts, and the first month will be completely free.
“FreedomPop was built on the vision that everyone should have access to mobile services, whether that’s bringing innovative, free plans to U.S. users or expanding our free mobile service across the globe”, said Stephen Stokols, FreedomPop CEO and co-founder.
FreedomPop is actually a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) meaning it doesn’t have its own wireless network infrastructure, but instead uses ones from a mobile network operator. “This gives them cost advantages which enable continued investment in innovation, and also aligns them closely with existing smartphone user behaviour”. Any unused data each month are rolled over to the next.
