French swimming tragedy parents arrive in France
Jessica, a pupil at Wolfreton School in Hull, fell into a lake near Meymac in the Massif Central region on Tuesday.
French bases have presented a study straight into the scenarios along the demise.
The death of a 12-year-old girl in a swimming accident on a school trip to France was a “terrible tragedy” and a “dreadful shock to the whole school community”, her head teacher said.
Katie Hopkins has showed off a much softer side with a heartfelt letter to Jessica Lawson’s devastated family.
The photo emerged last night as the 12-year-old’s heartbroken parents prepared to bring her body home. We have now discovered that calamitously the woman kicked the bucket this…
Jessica was among 24 students and three staff who were on a water sports trip to the adventure centre.
Dave McCready, headteacher at Wolfreton School, said: “We are all deeply saddened by this tragic event and our thoughts and prayers are with the students’ family at this hard time”.
Addressing his daughter directly, he added: ‘We all love you and miss you.
Ms Huismans said the incident happened “very quickly” and described how she saw a girl being pulled out of the water 90 seconds later by a lifeguard.
“I will live my life to the full just like she would have done”.
She said: “Local sources have said they were jumping off a pontoon, the pontoon overturned and it was then that Jessica was found to be missing”.
Children had to be able to swim 50 metres unaided to be allowed on the holiday, which offered the chance to try out kayaking, canoeing and sailing.
Activ4 said it understood the accident occurred while the group was swimming after scheduled activities had finished.
“Our deepest sympathy is with the student’s family, the pupils, staff and everyone else in the wider school community”.
Sirina Leigh, 12, who used to go to street dance classes with Jessica, left a floral tribute at the gate of the school with a note reading: “You were such an fantastic friend”.
Steve Scott, managing director of Activ4, who is in Meymac, said: “We can confirm that a student on one of our trips to the south of France passed away this morning following a swimming incident yesterday afternoon”.
The trip was run by the Activ4 tour operator who said they were, together with the owners of the activity centre, working with the local authority and the school to provide any necessary support and assistance.
Mehdi Razine, a worker at the activity camp, told France 3 television: “There was a kid and, I don’t know, around 20 others and unfortunately the thing (a plastic pontoon on the lake) flipped over”.
‘A minute, or a minute and a half later, people reacted.’.
“The rest of the students now remain in France and are being cared for by staff from the school and also the activity centre”.
