French Teacher ‘Invented’ IS Stab Attack
Daech is the Arabic acronym for Islamic State.
The primary teacher was reported to have been slashed in the throat in front of the Jean Perrin d’Aubervilliers school in the Northern suburbs of Paris today. It was unclear how the man sustained his injuries.
“This is Daesh, it’s a warning”, the attacker told his victim, the official said, adding the victim’s life was apparently not in danger.
Although the claim of an attack was proved to be false, say prosecutors, he admitted to “stabbing himself” and “making the whole thing up”. Law enforcement officials have increased security at schools in the wake of the November 13 attacks.
The suspect reportedly arrived to the school while wearing a balaclava head covering and was unarmed, using classroom objects to launch the assault.
The attacker is now on the run.
Islamic State’s French-language magazine Dar-al-Islam last month urged followers to kill teachers in France, describing them as “enemies of Allah” for promoting secularism. No children were present, only the teacher and other staff members, Galli told reporters outside the school. The anti-terrorism division of the Paris prosecutor’s office is also probing the incident as an act related to terrorism.
The teacher was attacked by the masked assailant with a box-cutter and scissors while preparing their classroom for the day, according to France 3.
Europe has been on high-alert amid a crackdown on potential terror cells since the Paris attacks.
“We have received many calls from colleagues, who are very anxious”, she said.
The teacher’s tale sparked a manhunt throughout the suburb, north of the French capital. Families dropping off or picking up children are not permitted to linger near schools’ entrances, and children are not allowed to wait in groups outside for the doors to open.
