Frigid Sunday; not as cold Monday
The advisory was issued Saturday by the National Weather Service of Chicago and is expected to be in effect from midnight to 11 a.m. Sunday.
So far, Friday morning hasn’t been too bad with most temperatures in the 20s and 30s – far more comfortable than those single digit wind chills we saw earlier this week. Blustery & cold. Wind chills: single digits.
“Look for that advisory and possibly even Wind Chill Warnings to spread southward in the next day or so as we continue to evaluate the pattern”, Skow says. Break out the heavy winter coats, hats and gloves to protect skin from the frigid weather.
Residents of lakefront areas are also warned that hazardous waves and freezing spray is likely from Saturday night through Monday morning.
Some of our computer models are hinting at an offshore storm that could bring some light snow to the area late Sunday. Wind chills in the Windy City were in the teens below zero while Milwaukee saw a wind chill as low as minus 21 degrees. Wind chill values as low as -36. Highs will stay below zero for most of the day.
Temperatures overnight Sunday into Monday will drop to near 0. Northwest winds will strengthen gusting over 20 miles per hour – not only combing to produce the risky wind chills, but also heavy lake-effect snow along and inland of the eastern Lake Michigan shoreline.
Olson said highs should be 20 on Wednesday and 23 on Thursday. Following that is another chance of accumulating snow on Tuesday.
Tue: High: 36 Mostly cloudy; an afternoon/evening sprinkle or flurry.
