Frigid Wind Chills Today and Tonight
Wind chills Friday afternoon and evening will likely stay in the single digits for most of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Some overnight flurries are possible late Wednesday night as another wave of energy moves through. A cold northwest wind at 15 to 25mph will come with the winter chill.
Wind chills could hit between 30 and 40 below zero at times, KSTP meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas said. Showers are expected overnight Friday and into Saturday morning before clouds break during the afternoon. A few flurries are possible too. Sunday morning was 15 below zero in Sioux Falls with a wind chill of minus 27. For the most part, the incoming storm system will produce only light to moderate rain across New Jersey, with most rainfall totals around a half-inch.
The service forecasts a high Saturday of 8 below, a high Sunday of 7 below, and lows both nights around 20 below – making this weekend colder than last. Skies are partly sunny.
The short-term forecast for Kimball and nearby areas calls for clear, mostly sunny skies and below freezing temperatures through the weekend and into the middle of next week.
Thursday’s high in Madison was 35, 9 degrees above normal and 13 degrees below the record high of 48 for January 14, set in 1928 and tied in 1952.
