From top prosecutor to felon: Kane quits as Pa. attorney general
Under state law, Kane isn’t required to resign until the day she is sentenced but mounting political pressure may have persuaded her to depart quickly.
“Most definitely. She should do time”, he said.
Fina, who previously prosecuted Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky for child sexual abuse, was also caught up in the scandal.
Bruce Castor, Kane’s deputy, will take over as acting attorney general. Many of them are incredibly lewd.
A photo of a pantsless woman on her knees performing oral sex on a man is captioned “Making your boss happy is your only job”.
A grand jury panel, led by Special Prosecutor Thomas Carluccio, found in December of 2014 that Kane should be charged with everything that she was ultimately found guilty of. The felony offense of perjury carries a potential jail term, and prosecutor Kevin Steele said jail time may be recommended.
Republican National Committee spokesman Michael Short blasted Hillary Clinton for not disavowing Kane, which he said showed “a troubling abdication of leadership”.
Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf had urged Kane to resign since she was charged a year ago, and leaders of the state Senate’s Republican majority threatened a vote to order her removal from office if she didn’t step aside immediately. She did not testify in her own defense, and she left the courthouse without commenting. Her lawyers say she will appeal.
Then, in 2014, there was another leak on what seemed like a totally unrelated case. The jury agreed, following damaging testimony of a former political consultant who said he was asked to deliver the leaked documents to the Philadelphia Daily News.
Kane was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was publicly endorsed by Bill Clinton, according to the Times-Tribune.
Prosecutors alleged Kane leaked information about a grand jury probe in an attempt to embarrass a rival. He acknowledged telling the lie to a grand jury.
Public officials convicted of official misconduct in Pennsylvania typically don’t have to resign until they are sentenced. “Not just to them, but to the citizens of this commonwealth and I am glad to see that the end is just finally in sight”, she said.
The criminal charges were filed against Kane in August 2015. That’s where much of this dirty laundry was aired.
Mr. Farber said Ms. Kane was “no fan” of Frank Fina, but it was Mr. Morrow who was obsessed with getting revenge against him. State Sen. John Rafferty, R-Montgomery County, and Montgomery County Commission Chairman Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, are running to replace her. The defense did not call any witnesses.
She faces up to seven years in prison on the most serious charge when she is sentenced on October 24. Her defense team did not put on a single witness in her defense. Now, she’s facing jail time and has had her law license suspended. One of the things that makes this case so difficult to grasp is how hard it is to separate the creeps from the heroes, noted Pompilio in The Post in December. Supreme Court Justice Michael Eakin even resigned in association with Kane’s work.
