Frost Advisory for the Weekend
James Gibson, meteorologist at the National Weather Service station in Wilmington, Ohio, said the Cincinnati region averages its first frost on October 23. This weekend’s sub-freezing air will be cold enough (for a long enough period of time) to kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
After 10 a.m. Sunday, there is a small chance of showers. Inland areas will reach the mid 20s overnight. In St. Cloud, a high of 74 is expected with clear and sunny skies.
Simmons said the average high for the winter months in the Quad-Cities is 33.7 degrees while the average low is 17 degrees. Temperatures will quickly fall into the 50s after sunset.
It should be even a little warmer on Sunday going into a warmer week. There is a 30 to 40 percent chance of valley showers on Saturday, and a slightly higher chance for wet weather in the mountains.
Last year, the first freeze was recorded on November 1 while in 2013 the first freeze was October 25, according to the Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected to moderate as the work week progresses.
Colder weather is expected Saturday night, forecasters said.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with an overnight low temperature of 51 degrees.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy skies and chilly temperatures will be around for Thursday night, with a low temperature of 48 degrees.
