Frustration for Rooney, Man U; Bournemouth gets 1st EPL win
The Premier League newcomers won at Upton Park on the back of a Callum Wilson hat trick, and Carl Jenkinson became the fifth West Ham player to be sent off in all competitions this season.
Howe insisted he never doubted his side could go on to win having let a two-goal lead slip and, after opening the season with closely fought defeats to Aston Villa and Liverpool, he was pleased to get an early win under his belt.
The 26-year-old QPR striker has been linked with a host of Barclays Premier League clubs over the summer after scoring 18 goals as the Hoops dropped out of the top flight last season. That was clear to see at Anfield, where he drifted in and out of the game but came so close to finding the equaliser with a rasping drive against the post, so he represents a player who West Ham must carefully keep tabs on for the full 90 minutes.
Leicester had exploited it and Bournemouth were merciless here. The boos made no impact, as it was the Cherries again who threatened as the half ended, with Matt Ritchie and Max Gradel seeing efforts foiled.
Not long after, he was signed to West Ham’s academy system. Make no mistake: West Ham were battered here.
It was Bournemouth’s turn to produce some inept defending immediately after the restart, however, as they conceded two soft goals in quick succession. The midfielder kept his cool to sidestep a lunging Jenkinson and steer the Cherries back in front.
Although admitting his side were culpable of making errors in defence, Bilic was also quick to praise the display of the visitors.
“We played a very bad first half”. Goals are harder to come by at this level than in the Championship but Wilson will not have scored many easier ones.

The Hammers started poorly and were made to pay the price as Bournemouth took charge in the first half and stormed into a two-goal lead. When I played in Germany we once beat Valencia 7-0, but that is just a one off. I believe in Randolph.
But a clumsy challenge from King on Mark Noble threw the Hammers a 48th minute penalty lifeline which Noble took.
Then it was 2-2 as Cheikhou Kouyate turned in a ball which was only palmed out by Bournemouth goalkeeper Artur Boruc, following a Diafra Sakho shot in the 53rd minute.
In his very first start in the Premier League, Xherdan Shaqiri showed what he is all about with a superb floated ball, duly tapped into the net by Mame Biram Diouf.
