FSG Aren’t Roman Abramovich – Liverpool Legend Warns Jurgen Klopp Over
No managerial appointment has captured public interest in the Barclays Premier League quite like this since Jose Mourinho first arrived at Chelsea in 2004 and called himself “The Special One”.
The German’s stint at Dortmund was largely a successful one, with the side winning two German Bundesligas and reaching a UEFA Champions League final.
Klopp’s arrival as Brendan Rodgers’ replacement is a real coup for owners Fenway Sports Group and fans are already hailing it as the beginning of a great new era – something the new boss was keen to temper.
“This guy says “No, no, I think this squad is all right”.
I don’t claim to be a few kind of spokesperson for Liverpool fans.
In terms of on the field, we all want to see success, we all want to see that league title that has eluded us since 1990, but first and foremost we want to see fight.
“This is a great club because of many good decisions in the past, good players, brilliant players, now we have to work in the present”.
Rodgers led Liverpool to a second-place finish in 2014, but they managed only sixth last season. “History is only the base for us; [we shouldn’t] keep the history in our backpack all day”. I love all the stories. Now we have to start, not wait.
I think if you look at what he is inheriting, you would say the squad is slightly undercooked. Why give him a job if he can’t do it?
“The most important thing for the development is the start”. It is not ideal but it is a good moment to be here’.
“It is only important we play our own game, let the players feel the confidence and the trust of the people”.
“You thought ‘What is he going to do post Dortmund?, then clubs like Liverpool certainly came into the frame”.
He believes Liverpool fans will take Klopp to their hearts and liked the down-to-earth attitude he witnessed when the 48-year-old spoke to the media. We want to see mistakes are learned from.
Saying that, Klopp iterated in his interview the need for a stable defence, something which in the future perhaps our former no. 23 could help out with.
‘Stop thinking about money.
“It is only about football”. Because you can only stay confident in a game when you know not each offensive move of the other team is a goal.
“You can have different degrees of team spirit, because without it you have no football at all – everybody would just do what he wants”.
