FSU DB Derwin James to have knee surgery
In his Monday press conference, Seminoles’ head coach Jimbo Fisher announced that the injury would require surgery to fix some minor cartilage damage in James’ knee.
Fisher said the length of time James is ultimately sidelined will be determined by the extent of the fix doctors need to make to the cartilage.
Fisher said Jones did not suffer any structural damage and the timetable for his return will become more clear after learning what the doctors saw during the surgery. “That’s all going to depend on the surgery”.
The reason Louisville has looked so impressive this season is quarterback Lamar Jackson, who has thrown for 697 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 318 yards and six more touchdowns in two games.
The 6-foot-3, 211-pound safety took the college football world by storm as a true freshman last season, recording 91 tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He could have been utilized as a spy to limit Jackson, but without him available, it’s unclear where Florida State’s defense will turn to stop Jackson. “I don’t know until they do the surgery, how it’s repaired”. James did not tear his ACL as had been originally feared, but he tore cartilage when he planted his leg attempting to make a tackle in Saturday’s win over Charleston Southern.
