Funeral for Lansing Firefighter Killed during Charity Event

Thousands are expected to attend Dennis Rodeman’s funeral at Michigan State University.

After the funeral service the procession will start a 32-mile drive to West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte.

Court records show the suspect, Grant Taylor, may have been angry over traffic delays.

Rodeman was hit in Lansing last week while participating in an annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the global Association of Fire Fighters.

Dennis Rodeman was remembered as a jokester and a kind man who found meaning when he met his wife, who is now pregnant with the couple’s first child.

Rodeman served with the Lansing Fire Department for seven years.

They had been married since June. He said firefighters nation-wide will be worse off with Rodeman’s death.

“He’s given way more than he should have had to”, Telifarro said.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero had a few words to say about Rodeman as well.

After speeches were concluded, there was a bell-ringing ceremony, a tradition when a firefighter falls in the line of duty.
