Fury calls Klitschko camp ‘cheats,’ feared he’d be drugged
Fury’s triumph, something seen by many as one of heavyweight boxing’s biggest upsets, places him in the company of heavyweight champions to hold a world heavyweight crown. People want it to happen and it will happen at some stage.
“I want that fight to happen as soon as possible”, the man known as the “Bronze Bomber” – in reference to his 2008 Olympic medal – told the BBC. I want to be a great champion. Luckily for me I had a good taste of German beer before, during and after the bout, to as my Publisher “Bad” Brad Berkwitt always says, “Fuggedaboutit” that I was watching in pain the heavyweights of today (and the past 15 years).
He made it clear he wouldn’t be giving fellow Brit David Haye any opportunity after Haye twice cancelled fights with Fury in 2013 and 2014. “Then he (Klitschko) had his bandages on and his wraps on before we came into the changing room and he had to take them off”.
While Klitschko has sat atop the heavyweight division for over a decade, Wilder is looking to make a name for himself as one of the division’s best fighters. Probably the pound-for-pound king, whatever that means.
Asked if he thought he was a role model to kids, Fury replied: “I’m not bothered, it’s up to them”.
The Mancunian initially derided the 30-year-old, three years his senior, calling him “a basketball player who took up boxing a couple of years ago”.
“I’m not prepared to talk about future venues and future fights and boxing because I’m not thinking about that at the minute”.
He has a scheduled title defence on 16 January 2016 in NY, with the opponent not yet announced.
Tyson Fury did his job and very well against an old age Wladimir, nobody can take that away from him.
“Whatever title he gets mandatory for, I will vacate”.
Talking about his style, Wilder added: “I’m going to try to disfigure you so bad that your kinfolks won’t recognise you at the end of the fight”. “I never believed he would do it but he did”.
Fury also started talking, taunting, and he finished with a song when after 12 rounds he was crowned – an old-fashioned word and the right word – the heavyweight champion of the world on an emotional night in front of almost 50,000 people here in Düsseldorf.
On Monday, at a news conference at Bolton Wanderers’ Macron Stadium, Fury accused Klitschko’s camp of a dirty tricks campaign aimed at rattling him.
Fury is expected to grant Klitschko a rematch.
