Fury is the new world champion
Tyson Fury has withdrawn a complaint about the canvas being too soft for Saturday’s world heavyweight title fight against Wladimir Klitschko, meaning the bout will go ahead as planned. Wladimir Klitschko will be taking the rematch he is contractually owed next year.
Fury won the fight with head feints, confidence, and trash-talking.
And the now-former The Ring, IBF, WBO, IBO and WBA Heavyweight boxing champion looked bad in the process.
“I got the news yesterday that we were pregnant”. Fury got 86 out of 371 or 23 percent. Ortiz is a different story, of course.
Fury is quite the character and said plenty of insane things leading up to the fight – including calling Klitschko a “devil-worshiper” – and no matter what you say about his style or skill, he’s going to be a much more entertaining heavyweight champion thank Klitschko was, for however long his reign lasts.
The British challenger claimed the gloves would break his thumb – new ones were rushed out but the Klitschko camp accused Fury of behaving like “amateurs” over the issue.
Vitali is quoted as saying by BBC Sport: “I know how good Wladimir is and Wladimir did not show how good he is”.
Indeed, the controversy continued right until the first bell as Klitschko apparently had his hands wrapped without a member of Fury’s team watching, as is custom.
Earlier, the pair had been given the flawless boost ahead of the world heavyweight title fight against Klitschko when he discovered he us going to be a dad again. He’s not been vocal about wanting to win the WBC title. Fury’s antics – which include dressing up like Batman at a press conference – have carried the promotion, but Klitschko views them as the Brit’s mask for his nerves.
The buildup to the fight had seen Fury dressing as Batman and serenading and insulting Klitschko, and even complimenting him on his scent. I don’t think for a second that Fury would have been able to beat the 2004 version of Wladimir. On the contrary, the big man seemed content to clown for the most part.
