Fury Road’ is a hot fan favourite for the Oscars — Mad Max
The Los Angeles Film Critics Association has named “Spotlight” the best film of 2015, capping a day of voting in which the group distributed awards both to awards frontrunners and to dark horses, TheWrap reports.
Director Tom McCarthy’s “Spotlight” has been named the best film of the year by the Boston Society of Film Critics. “Fury Road” was the runner-up, and a “distant second” according to Boston Globe film critic Ty Burr.
Michael Fassbender won the best-actor award for “Steve Jobs”, and Charlotte Rampling was named best actress for “45 Years”. Mark Rylance won the best supporting actor honour for “Bridge of Spies”. George Miller was named best director and the post-apocalyptic film also won for best cinematography and best production design.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” won more awards from the LA critics than any other movie, taking home three.
Carter Burwell was honored for his music scores for “Anomalisa” and “Carol”. Quentin Tarantinos The Hateful Eight was recognized only for Ennio Morricones score as the runner-up to Burwells compositions.
The New Generation award, which goes to a rising talent, went to “Creed” director Ryan Coogler, two years after he made a splashy debut with “Fruitvale Station”.
The L.A. critics’ association and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have rarely seen eye to eye on their top choices. As it was previous year, the foreign-language prize was awarded in memory of the late Globe film critic Jay Carr, who died in 2014. The last of these was Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker” in 2009. Veteran film editor Anne V. Coates, whose credits range from “Lawrence of Arabia” to “Fifty Shades of Grey”, was designated this year’s Career Achievement award victor in October.
Special citation: David Shepard, for his invaluable work in film preservation, particularly of movies from the silent era.
The awards will be presented January 9 at a ceremony at the InterContinental hotel in Century City.
