FX Orders ‘Atlanta’ To Series
It is scheduled to premiere in 2016.
“‘Atlanta’ draws on Donald’s considerable talents as a musician, actor and writer to give us something unique”, said FX’s President of Original Programming Nick Grad. The series will follow two cousins who work their way up through the city’s rap scene.
Glover famously left Community to pursue other creative outlets, including rapping, and supposedly chose FX because the network was more cooperative with working around Glover’s busy touring schedule. Glover (“Community”) is already a successful rap star himself as Childish Gambino. Glover is represented by Greg Cavic at UTA, Lev Ginsburg of Ginsburg Daniels LLP, and Dianne McGunigle at MGMT Entertainment.
Brian Tyree Henry will play Alfred Miles, Atlanta’s hot of the moment rapper who plans to capitalize on the sudden fame as quickly as possible. Henry is best known for the film Puerto Ricans in Paris as well as appearances on HBO’s Vice Principal and Boardwalk Empire. Stanfield plays Darius, Mile’s musical collaborator and right-hand man, while Beetz plays Glover’s on-and-off love interest, Van, with whom he has a daughter. Or will it just feature short bursts meant to sell singles?
