G. Tech vs. Notre Dame Odds
Georgia Tech is one of few teams in Division 1 football that run a true triple-option offense.
No. 8 Notre Dame is pretty banged up, but it will attempt to stay unbeaten on Saturday when it hosts No. 14 Georgia Tech at 3:30PM ET on NBC.
But it’s so far, so good for those “next men”.
Texas A&M should rout the Wolfpack, but if you have not seen quarterback Kyle Allen play yet, its worth the watch. “But it ought to be fun, you ought to embrace it – a chance to compete”. He played in eight games as a freshman and nine games last season.
Kizer will start for Notre Dame (2-0) after replacing Malik Zaire against Virginia last week.
“They’re going to be aggressive”, Kelly said. It is as much about us as it is about who we play.
Kelly said he doesn’t think the problems against Virginia are similar to last season, when the Irish struggled to understand defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder’s complex system.
Longtime Georgia Tech commit Chris Martin is as firm in his commitment as one can be.
How do these numbers sound?
Notre Dame racked up 460 yards of offense, 253 of those on the ground, although it came up short trying to cover as 13-point chalk. Las Vegas casinos have set the over/under at 55 points. He worked on his throwing mechanics, started receiving more scholarship offers, and he gave Notre Dame another call.
“Navy last year brought out some stuff that they did in 2009 with bunch packages that outflanked our defense”, Kelly said, citing a formation the Midshipmen hadn’t run in five years. Notre Dame has played in front of sellout crowds in 276 of its previous 324 games (.852) overall.
“Even last week, when it was another home game, I had the same jitters”, said Marcus Marshall. But backup DeShone Kizer hit wide receiver Will Fuller on a 39-yard touchdown strike with just 12 seconds to go to lift the Irish to victory. And while some tricks and wrinkles will surely catch the Irish off guard, there’s confidence that the past experience will come in handy. “We have to be the lead guys doing it. We’re going to cut back to the basics and do the things that we know and get some confidence in them and start winning some more games”.
Johnson doesn’t expect to see much of a dropoff in terms of ability since both were highly recruited players. He said he trusted me. “So he’s got a lot of weapons around him”.
Kizer will work behind a veteran line, and Fuller already has 12 receptions for 266 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Georgia Tech yields 141.5 yards in passing and 118.5 yards in rushing.
As a Georgia Tech fan, I’m excited at the prospect of the resume that Tech can build up over the course of the season. The Yellow Jackets will be challenged by better players who are faster and stronger.
“You tell yourself out of high school you don’t go to school to play right away”, Kizer said. The competition is amping up really big.
Freeman has at least played on some big stages – the ACC Championship, the Orange Bowl, Sanford Stadium.
“We’ll have probably 30 or 40 guys who haven’t traveled before so it will be interesting to see how they react”, Johnson said.
If Tech can’t block Smith enough – depending on where he lines up, a lot of the responsibility could fall to Chamberlain, Joe or Burden – he may well end up with 15-plus tackles and help force the Jackets into more 3-and-longs than they would prefer. It was the Yellow Jackets’ most points in two consecutive games since 1918, when a John Heisman-coached powerhouse scored more than 100 points three times.
