Gabbert’s struggles lead to calls for Kaepernick

If anybody should be taking a knee right now protesting, it should be Chip Kelly protesting the 49ers having such crappy quarterbacks. Thursday night, Gabbert was subjected to several big hits; any one of them could have resulted in an injury that forced Kaepernick into the lineup.

“We’re 1-4. We’re going to look at everything”, he said. With the Jaguars, he threw more interceptions (24) than touchdowns (22). “They know. If he was clearly better than Blaine Gabbert, he’d be playing”.

It’s rare to have a quarterback, who recently took his team to a super bowl, sitting on the bench. Gabbert for the season ranks 31st (of 32) in passer rating (69.6), 29th in completion percentage (58) and 32nd in yards per attempt (4.8).

The 49ers allowed seven sacks Thursday including a late safety.
