Gamaliel Onosode dies at 82
He was former council member, the Nigerian Stock Exchange; Council Member, Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers; chairman, Board of Fellows, Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers.
Onosode was reported to have died Tuesday morning at Gold Cross Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos at about 8:15am after a protracted illness.
Gamaliel Onosode, former presidential candidate of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) is dead.
He was the chairman of Dunlop Nigeria Plc (1984-2007), a former chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc (1977-1993), chairman of the Presidential Commission on Parastatals (1981), Nigeria LNG Working Committee and Nigeria LNG Limited (1985-90) and the Niger Delta Environmental Survey (since 1995).
Burial arrangements will be announced by the family.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President also commiserated with the government and people of Delta State, and the Nigerian Baptist Convention on the death of the man he described as an “illustrious son and evangelist”.
“The PDP is indeed deeply saddened by the loss of this great Nigerian, a highly respected statesman and organised corporate administrator who made vast contributions towards the economic and political development of our dear nation”.
Mr Adebayo Adeleke, the National Secretary, Independent Shareholders of Nigeria (ISAN), said that Onosode was one of the pillars of industry in Nigeria.
He is also the Chairman of Zain Nigeria, a GSM telecommunications company, the oldest GSM operator in Nigeria.
The immediate past Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has expressed his deep condolence over the death of Pa Gamaliel Offoritsenere Onosode.
“The passing of Deacon Gamaliel Onosode is sad, coming at a time his vast wisdom is needed for the economic advancement of the country”.
