‘Game of Thrones’ Breaks Record With 12 Wins at 2015 Emmys
The most tweeted moment came right after Davis’ emotional acceptance speech for her winning role on ABC’s “How To Get Away With Murder“.
Despite a positively-reviewed host in Andy Samberg and a history-making night with the first win by an African-American woman, Viola Davis, in the Best Actress in a Drama Series category, the award show drew an average of just 11.9 million viewers, according to early numbers, the lowest total on record. “You will never have to see me again”.
“I can’t seem to get over that line”, she quoted Tubman as saying. “Oh, no! I gotta get out of here”, Samberg joked.
Accepting her award, she said: “The only thing that separates women of colour from anyone else is opportunity”.
Lena was celebrating with her fellow actors after the incredibly popular HBO show won 12 including best drama series at this year’s Emmys, held in Los Angeles. Yet for all the lack of killing, it’s hard to say that since so many still died this season, Game of Thrones fifth season took a more conventional route allowing it’s actors to showcase their talents. “It’s incredible and impossible for me personally to be standing here”.
Veep, which is set in the office of the fictional vice-president and subsequent president of the United States, Selina Meyer, also won the comedy writing statuette.
It was also named outstanding comedy series in the penultimate award of the night. And not that we’re undermining the award, it’s just sort of like getting your corsage before you go to the dance, still hoping you get the crown for prom queen… or king.
Its show “Transparent” lost in the Comedy Series category to HBO’s “Veep“, but creator Jill Soloway won for Directing for a Comedy Series and star Jeffrey Tambor won for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as Maura Pfefferman.
From Kerry Washington’s fresh-off-the-runway Marc Jacobs dress to Heidi Klum’s Versace plumage, WSJ’s Niki Blasina takes a look at some of the best and worst outfits at the 2015 Emmy Awards.
So here are some of the real winners and losers of this year’s Emmy Awards, starting with the fabulously amusing Amy Poehler. “We will play some cards”.
Meanwhile, Tony Hale won the Emmy for best supporting actor in a comedy for his appearances on “Veep” and Allison Janney captured the Emmy Award for best supporting actress in a comedy for the CBS show “Mom“.
Hamm had been nominated eight times before for best actor but had not won. “Thank you for letting us be part of this change”.
