‘Game of Thrones’ is burning up in its new season
After seeing Arya (Maisie Williams) reunite with her beloved direwolf, Nymera, in “Stormborn”, many fans were left wondering if we’d get a scene featuring Jon Snow (Kit Harington) reuniting with his loyal pet.
Sansa has not gone through hell and back as Joffrey’s bride-to-be, then Tyrion’s wife, then Littlefinger’s creepy protégé, then Ramsey’s wife/victim to now let anyone tell her what to do anymore. Arya forced Nymeria to leave, even throwing a stone at her to chase her away.
Something tells us that we weren’t the only ones disappointed when the Mother of Dragons chose to take up residence in Dragonstone rather than blowing up the remaining Lannisters at King’s Landing, but at least this week the show attempted to explain why she was taking her sweet and slow time.
It was sad to see Nymeria turn away from her former master, but hopeful in another way.
“I learned a great deal from her”, Sansa replied ominously. “So they nearly just regard each other and go their separate ways”.
It seems it, because the direwolf doesn’t bite her or even growl as Arya reaches out to her with her hand, beckoning her to come back to Winterfell with her. “She’s been silently absorbing and learning and adapting, and in my opinion, she’s just as good as he is at playing the game at this point”.
Two days after the broadcast of episode 2 of season 7 of Game of Thrones whose critic is still available on melty, we suggest you to plunge again to discover what scene was cut.
Smart money’s on no.
“You know, I don’t like to give things away”, Martin said. Nymeria don’t/won’t follow Arya’s steps anymore. “So much of this season is swinging back to season 1”, he said. Perhaps over the next few episodes we begin hearing accounts of wolves attacking Lannister men in the Riverlands as Nymeria and her pack begin subconsciously carrying out Arya’s desires.
Did she really mean that wasn’t Nymeria in the flesh? “Then she realizes the wolf is doing exactly what she would do if she were that wolf”. This immediately sparked rumors that the wolf might actually be Arya’s long-lost direwolf, Nymeria.
Now you got a pack, but Arya is still a lone wolf. “And that might be foreshadowing for Arya too”. The only other person who knows Jon’s true lineage is Bran, and there’s no telling when Meera will drag him back to Winterfell. As one Redditor points out, the last time he got slammed against a wall, he betrayed the man who did it and watched him die, and there’s no guarantee he won’t do the exact same thing this time. And as Cogman suggests, it could have implications for Arya down the line.
Sadly, it didn’t quite go to plan after Nymeria skedaddled when Arya asked the wolf to join her in the North.
But with characters like Daenerys and Jon Snow, the more “conventional” fantasy heroes in this land of terribles, ascending to important, powerful positions, we might have been forgiven for thinking the horrors of Westerosi family feuds would abate, and they’d pull together to build a better future, hopefully defeating the White Walkers along the way.
