‘Game of Thrones’ is coming to an end
This new information could have massive implications for the final two seasons of Game of Thrones, with the fight for the Iron Throne heating up. Ned Stark has been linked as his guardian.
Thanks to EW, we now know who’s going to be directing season seven; Alan Taylor, Jeremy Podeswa, Mark Mylod and Matt Shakman. Specifically, the fans have always questioned whether Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is actually the bastard son of Ned Stark (Sean Penn), and with an interesting vision from the past, it was confirmed that Ned is not Jon’s father, although the two remains related by blood. Indeed, Jaehaerys II Targaryen, who was Rhaegar’s grandfather, is the one who learned that the fabled “prince that was promised”, a figure destined to save the world from darkness, would be born of his line. She theorizes that Lyanna whispers to Ned, “His name is Jaehaerys”. The now-deceased King of Winterfell visits his sister in Rhaegar Targaryen’s Tower of Joy, where she makes him promise to care for her son after her certain death. Ned fights Ser Arthur Dayne to get to Lyanna, only to find her all bloodied, lying on the bed after giving birth to Jon. She mouths something that appears to be “Aerys”, the name of the Mad King – a potentially horrifying development, if he was Jon’s true father.
It would still stand to reason that Game of Thrones Season 7 makes a plot point of reaffirming Rhaegar Targaryen as Jon’s father, but is the mystery officially otherwise solved?
Game of Thrones is based on novels written by George R R Martin. Jon Arryn, who we only saw in the first episode of Game of Thrones, was the Hand of the King. Whatever else, the end of Game of Thrones is unlikely to be a cobbled-together debacle in the inglorious tradition of Lost. What do you guys think?
But if you don’t have time to remap Jon’s entire lineage right this minute, HBO released a useful and thorough infographic Wednesday, June 29, that shows how the truth about his parentage changes his relationships with basically everyone in Westeros.
