Game of Thrones Recap: The Calm Before the Storm We’re Hoping For
So last time, one of our biggest highlights was the Hound’s come back and now we give you the highlights of this episode.
Game of Thrones is filled with death, deception, depravity, the occasional act of decency, and dialogue acrobatics.
But Arya declares that she’s Arya Stark and she’s headed home to Westeros, and that’s apparently convincing enough for Jaqen, who just stands there and lets her leave.
But their siege might not have been as successful as they anticipated, because Daenerys finally returned from her time with the Dothraki – and her dragon in tow. What follows is a thrilling chase throughout the town of Braavos, that ends with Arya jumping off a ledge, falling down the stairs of the marketplace and her stomach wounds reopening. She was able to get away and makes her the theatre where Lady Crane finds Arya and helps her get better. You can’t trust anyone. He chopped a guy’s head off, tossed an ax up another’s you-know-what and more.
King’s Landing: Following a successful standoff with the Faith Militant, Cersei is easily defeated by her uncle Kevan, who exiles her to the gallery when she shows up to witness one of Tommen’s (Dean-Charles Chapman) royal announcements. They talked about fighting the White Walkers, but as a band of wandering soldiers, they could play into a number of conflicts. In fact we’ve seen how Cersei has paid for believing she can control extremists, as it is now they who have her son, and her life, in their hands. Cersei is arguably envious of the power that Margaery would have as Queen, not to mention that she’s young than her. Cersei would relish the opportunity to unleash some violence on Margaery but somehow the timings not quite right. “I choose violence”, Cersei says triumphantly before this occurs.
Flanked by the resurrected Mountain, Cersei faces off against Faith Militant members. Cersei looks anxious; however, her maester tells her that he might have some more news regarding that “rumor” she had his “little birds” investigate. Lancel, go home. You suck.
Meanwhile, in the tent (where they’re not having sex, thank you very much), Jaime and Brienne engage in more diplomatic, maneuvering, and the pieces begin to fall into place for the wars to come. King Tommen sets a date for Cersei and Loris Tyrell’s trials, and he also bans trial by combat, which Cersei was banking on to ensure her freedom. The trials from now on will be held in front of seven septons. It once again acknowledged Podrick’s sexual prowess – something we recently got to the bottom of when we spoke with Podrick himself – and it gave a hat-tip to the perceived sexual tension some fans see between Jaime and Brienne. Dead. “He’d f*ck her that’s for sure”, Bronn said. She by the way failed too to convince him to pledge support to Sansa. Otherwise, as we haven’t seen him since Season 3, his confrontation with Jaime shouldn’t feel almost as meaningful. Be still my heart. As soon as he enters he orders the Tully forces to surrender Riverrun to the Lannisters and arrest his own uncle. Because someone wouldn’t make it out alive. He didn’t believe Brienne at first, until she showed him Sansa’s letter. After some serious mind games, emotional torture and threatening the well-being of the Tully family, Jaime gets Edmure Tully to participate in his plans to take the castle.
